Amaretto Sour Recipe
History:
The Amaretto Sour is a popular variation of the classic sour cocktail, which combines a base spirit, citrus juice, and sweetener. The Amaretto Sour has its roots in the 1970s when the sweet, almond-flavored liqueur, amaretto, gained popularity. Traditionally, sours were made with whiskey, but the Amaretto Sour switched to amaretto, adding a unique nutty and sweet flavor profile. Over time, the drink has become a favorite for its smooth and well-balanced combination of flavors, with the addition of bourbon offering a slight depth and complexity.
Ingredients:
Liquid:
- 1.5 oz Amaretto
- 0.5 oz Bourbon
- 1 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
- 1 tsp Simple Syrup
- 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
- 1 Egg White
Garnish:
- Lemon Slice
- Maraschino Cherry
Instructions:
- Add the amaretto, bourbon, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, Angostura bitters, and egg white to a cocktail shaker.
- Dry shake (shake without ice) for 15 seconds to properly emulsify the egg white.
- Add ice to the shaker and shake again for another 15 seconds to chill the mixture.
- Strain the mixture into an Old Fashioned glass.
- Garnish with a slice of lemon and a maraschino cherry.
Glassware:
- Old Fashioned Glass
Notes:
- The Amaretto Sour is best served with crushed ice, which helps to keep the drink cold while diluting it slowly to balance the sweetness.
- The use of egg white adds a silky texture and frothy top to the drink, enhancing the visual and sensory appeal.
